THE BASICS R3T

The British built Grinnall R3T three-wheeled motorcycle trike is built on the fabulous Triumph Rocket 3, 2300cc motorcycle. The large capacity three cylinder motor produces a massive 147lbs/ft at 2500rpm and nearly 150 horse power, and is the biggest capacity production motorcycle in the world. Featuring maintenance free shaft drive and compliant independent double wishbone rear suspension, the R3T is the most comfortable and best performing three wheeled motorcycle cruiser available.

Styled by our contract designer Steve Everitt (who also conceived, designed and built the world class Hennessey Venom GT), the striking looking body hides a chassis fabricated in 1-inch diameter 12 gauge steel tube. The Grinnall fabrication is powder-coated and bolts onto the Triumph frame make a very rigid chassis.

A new set of CNC billet yokes (triple-tree) reset the steering geometry ensuring smooth and safe cornering without shoulder wrenching effort from the rider. Other features include disc rear brakes with billet calipers, braided hoses, sophisticated independent double wishbone rear suspension with in-board dampers and anti-roll-bar (sway-bar). Optional reverse, electric or mechanical. There is a wheel choice; the billet version mirrors the standard front.

For pillion comfort a second standard front seat is fitted with Triumph backrest, or there’s the option of a wrap-round type for long haul touring. A luggage rack provides a platform for a GIVI 55 litre case. An optional low luggage platform can be used for an additional bag such as a waterproof Ortlieb (up to 70 litres) or GIVI case. There is a further 26 litres of storage within the body-work in the drop down tail box. The R3T uses a stainless steel exhaust hidden inside the body, which features a slash-cut chrome tail pipe exiting the centre of the tail.

99% of UK supplied R3T’s are factory built. The semi knocked down kit is designed for easy assembly worldwide, and for export is delivered in a wooden box, door to door. All parts included take just 25 hours to assemble. It’s a fully bolt on kit, requiring no special tools, and is reversible back to two wheels. All body panels are 2-pack painted in your standard bike colour, or custom painted. The chassis and fabricated parts are powder coated in satin black polyester. The new CNC aluminium billet yokes and rear uprights are black anodized, and fully rose jointed for adjustment.

Before his sad and untimely demise, UK’s leading bike journalist, Kevin Ash, reported in the Daily Telegraph: ‘It’s a serious vehicle that’s good fun, whatever you ride, the R3T offers very high performance, is surprisingly practical and beautifully made.’ He concludes: ‘It is done with such engineering finesse and quality of finish; it has the feel you imagine Triumph itself would have lent it.’
